Goal king MacKintosh willing to abdicate

SHINTY: Glen MacKintosh would happily trade his title of top scorer for another league and Cup double with Newtonmore in 2012.

MacKintosh finished last season with a personal best goal tally of 36 and was on target twice again on Saturday as the champions defeated Kilmallie 7-2. However, manager Norman MacArthur has moved the marksman around the park this term to accommodate his many attacking options.

And MacKintosh would be happy to sacrifice out-and-out goals if it helped the team lift another championship and Camanachd Cup. “Last season was my best goal scoring campaign and it even surprised me a bit to finish top scorer in shinty,” said the modest attacker. “I have been playing in different positions this season, sometimes dropping into the centre line, I don’t really mind.

“We’ve a lot of good options in attack and I managed to get a couple of goals on Saturday anyway. The aim for us has to be to win the title again. It was great to win it on the last day last year and it would be fantastic to hang onto the Camanachd Cup as well.”

Newtonmore sit top of the division, but the result of the day was newly-promoted Kinlochshiel’s 4-0 defeat of championship hopefuls, Kyles.
