Glorious summer for Liberton

LIBERTON regained the Edinburgh Junior Summer League title after beating Murrayfield in a thrilling final at Torphin Hill.

Murrayfield led when Scott Simpson won 4 and 3 against Daniel Eardley in the top match before Scott Finlay levelled when he beat Alastair Thurlow at the second extra hole.

Fraser Christie and Kieran Cantley then beat Aoden Donnelly and Andrew Ni respectively to give Liberton an edge, but Murrayfield battled back.

Wins for Blair McIntosh and Cameron Whyte, against Alan MacLaren and Billy McPhee, meant it all came down to the final match, and John Butler prevailed on the home green over Euan McIntosh to give Liberton the title for the third time in four seasons.

Add in three SE Edinburgh Winter League titles, two Edinburgh Inter Club crowns and a Scottish Championship victory and it’s no wonder that junior convenor Robert Ross is proud of the work being done at the Capital club to encourage youngsters.
