Glasgow 2014: Mo Farah confirms he’ll run at Games

There had been fears the runner would miss out on Glasgow 2014 to concentrate on marathons across the globe.

But the 31-year-old long distance runner announced on Twitter he would compete for Team England at the event in July – though has not yet confirmed his events.

He tweeted: “Hi guys! I will be running in the Commonwealth Games this year..!! See you in Glasgow..!! Shabba....!!”

Team England officials had recently asked him to decide whether he wanted to compete in Glasgow following his debut run in the London Marathon.

Farah came eighth in the race last month, finishing in two hours, eight minutes and 21 seconds, collapsing after he crossed the finishing line. He was undecided whether to return to the track in Glasgow.

His coach, Alberto Salazar, had advised him not to run any more marathons until after the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Farah had previously committed to returning to track running at a Diamond League meeting in Glasgow on 12 July.

The Somali-born runner is the current 10,000 metres Olympic and World champion and 5,000 metres Olympic, World and European champion.

He has competed at the Commonwealth Games once before, finishing ninth in the 5,000m in 2006 in Melbourne, Australia.

Farah was due to compete in 2010 in New Delhi, India, but withdrew due to fatigue.
