German-born Kerr called up to Under-21 squad

GERMAN-born Kevin Kerr has earned his first call-up to the Scotland Under-21s squad for next week's training camp in Dunblane.

The 20-year-old Arminia Bielefeld midfielder has Scottish parents, his father having settled in northern Germany as a result of his army duties.

Kerr recently expressed his desire to represent Scotland, and under-21s manager Billy Stark has wasted no time snapping him up.

Kerr is one of nine uncapped players in a 25-man squad for the get-together between 8-11 February.

Rangers defender Jordan McMillan, currently starring on loan at Hamilton Accies, and Ibrox team-mate Andrew Shinnie – who is on loan at Dundee – are among the other uncapped names.

They are joined by Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan, Hibernian defender Paul Hanlon, St Mirren midfielder Stephen McGinn, Falkirk goalkeeper Jamie Barclay and forward Mark Stewart.

With many of the men who nearly succeeded in reaching this summer's Uefa Under-21s Championship now over the age limit, the most experienced player in a new-look line-up is Falkirk's Scott Arfield – who has made nine appearances.
