George Watson’s College 13 - 11 Dundee High School

GEORGE Watson’s College will face Dollar Academy in the final of the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Schools under-16 Cup on 26 November after defeating Dundee High School in the second of the semi-finals at Myreside last night with a performance that owed much to the ball-winning skills of their forwards in the contact area.

Dundee High School, however, contested the game fully, with astute handling, quick engagement in the tackle and excellent goal kicking from their Scotland squad centre Duncan Leese.

“These were two very good teams who have always had close matches. I thought Dundee moved the ball very well but the difference was that we took our chances,” said Watson’s coach Ian Brown.

Dundee High’s coach, Graeme Merry, said: “We were up against a very good side tonight and perhaps we didn’t get the rub of the green.”

The visitors led 6-3 at half-time, with two penalties from Leese to one by Adam Hastings, but Watson’s powerful wing Ben Robbins scored in the corner, before lock Angus Coull grabbed his side’s second try for what seemed a comfortable 13-6 lead. Dundee hit back with a clever line-out move with a try from hooker Ronan Joy, but it proved to be the final score of the game.
