Gala 35 - 18 Heriot’s: Borderers earn bonus-point victory

Despite worries of suffering second season syndrome, Gala opened their Premiership campaign with a bonus-point victory in a performance that suggests the cup winners will again be a competitive force.

Gala made sure their tackles counted and were sharp enough to snap up two fine scores. Euan Dods was the stand-out player for the home side, scoring two tries and having a significant hand in Gala’s other two touchdowns by George Graham and Craig Robertson. Gala were also helped by the accurate goal kicking of stand-off Lee Miller, who had a 15 point tally. For their part Heriot’s promised much but their failure to execute simple passing moves was costly. Heriot’s, however, did score two tries, the first by lock Charles Osazuwa, and the second on full time by Andy Scott, Graham Wilson accounting for the other points with two conversions and a penalty goal.
