Funeral of East tennis pillar Jeffrey

THE funeral takes place in Edinburgh tomorrow of East of Scotland tennis stalwart Hilda Jeffrey MBE, who died last week just short of her 97th birthday.

Born in Corstorphine, she became a member of the local club and was Honorary Secretary from 1950 until 1970 and Honorary President from 1986 until her death.

During the 1980s, she single-handedly managed the club match results in the East of Scotland leagues and compiled the revised league tables, a task which now requires a computer.
