French youngster Palma powers to victory

FRENCH teenager Julien Palma landed the main prize on the opening day of the Edinburgh Grand Prix at Meadowbank when he took victory in the sprint.

The 17-year-old from Orleans clocked 10.95 seconds in qualifying, a time that was two hundredths slower than Sheffield-based Scot Chris Pritchard. The pair progressed comfortably through the knockout rounds to set up a showdown in the final and the Frenchman just had the edge on his rival, taking the win 2-0.

Meanwhile, Scottish champion Charline Joiner posted an impressive win in the women's omnium.
