Fraser to the fore as Scots set pace

SENIOR AMATEURS: Scotland made an excellent start to the European Senior Men’s Team Championship at Estoril, Portugal.

They were leading at the 
end of the first qualifying round, spearheaded by a 66 from former shinty player 
John Fraser (Royal Burgess).

David Gardner and Ian Brotherston both backed him up with 71s, while Fraser McCluskey (72), Lindsey Blair (73) and Gordon MacDonald (74) also scored well on the opening day.

Meanwhile, the Scotland squad competing in the European Senior Women’s Team Championship at Lugano, Switzerland were lying 11th at the end of the first qualifying round.

They had a total of 408, some 30 strokes behind joint-leaders England and France.
