Fraser on Fishing: Parkview fundraiser was a great way to help disabled

I HAVE to admit that it was my first visit to Parkview Fishery on the outskirts of Cupar.

It is not a big water by any means but they do have some lovely fish with serious attitude. I did not go there by accident, it was a fundraiser in aid of the Scottish Disabled team, who are making their way to England for the home internationals. The event was well supported with some fine anglers from around the country.

First and foremost, it was to raise money but there were some fine prizes on offer with plenty of banter thrown in. The management were on hand to offer some sound advice with tactics and flies which proved invaluable.

It was sunny and quite warm with plenty of big fish showing, however, the majority were taken sub surface from about four to eight feet down. The retrieve had to be slow and steady but the takes were really ferocious.

As per usual, I got off to a slow start but, once I had figured the tactics, I got my fish. I was fishing a team of Buzzers straight through and lost as many as I landed. It was catch and release and the majority came to the top dropper on a Black Buzzer, casting out into mid water, the further the better, to chase fish that had moved out.

Although the fishery is small it is very deep and the banking can be very slippy if wet. Despite being caught several times, the trout continued to feed all day with the best rods coming in with 17 fish each. It was a great day of competition and more than 500 was raised for the Scottish Disabled Fly Fishing Association.
