Formula 1: Williams garage back on track after blaze

Williams will not be undermined this weekend by the fire that wrecked their Spanish Grand Prix triumph, but have implemented new procedures to ensure there will never be a repeat.

Chief operations engineer Mark Gillan has confirmed the team has worked round the clock following the blaze that began just 90 minutes after Pastor Maldonado gave Williams their first win for seven-and-a-half years.

Gillan has revealed 90 per cent of the garage infrastructure, including radios, intercom equipment and IT storage systems – was destroyed by the fire that began in the fuel-handling area.

“We’ve borrowed equipment from other teams as well. We are certainly fully operational,” said Gillan.
