Former Edinburgh Rugby coach Rob Moffat called in to help Murrayfield Wanderers

Murrayfield Wanderers team have taken advantage of the promptings of former Edinburgh coach Rob Moffat as they plot an East Regional Cup upset against high flying Watsonians on an international ground back pitch tonight (kick off 7.30).

Moffat, who has returned to teaching, was persuaded by Wanderers mentor Bruce Aitchison to undertake a coaching session on Tuesday in tandem with ex-Scotland tight-head prop, Barry Stewart.

Aitchison said: “It was an important session for us having lost our opening cup match last week to Musselburgh just a week after we’d gone to Stoneyhill and beaten them in the league.

“These ties are difficult for (third tier) Championship teams like us because unlike the Premiership or National League outfits we cannot afford the luxury of experimenting.

“However, I believe that if we play to potential and Watsonians are slightly below-par then we can be competitive especially with lads like Ross Anderson, our young prop really reaping the benefits of a couple of sessions with Barry Stewart.

“It will be a tough task though as I’d willingly welcome the entire Watsonian bench to bolster our club.”

Top try scorer Rory Steele returns to the Watsonians line-up at full back.
