Young Lions avoid repeat of drubbing at Linlithgow

Linlithgow were at home to John Hughes’ young Livingston side in a repeat of a game played earlier in the year when Linlithgow won 7-0, writes JOHN GILMOUR.

Hughes had a few words to say to his players then and on this occasion they almost turned the tide. The game 
finished 1-1 with Livingston having the bulk of the play.

Calum Smith was on the scoresheet for the Rose, but new signing David Dunn showed his class with two free-kicks which came crashing back of the post.

Dalkeith, on a good run of form in their pre-season games, beat a strong Hearts side 1-0 thanks to a goal from Kenny Fisher.

Penicuik entertained East of Scotland side Berwick Rangers and lost out narrowly in a five-goal thriller. It could so easily have been a draw for Penicuik but Keith Barr missed a 
penalty.

Newtongrange played Spartans and won 2-0 with the goals coming in the second half from Joe Dunbar and Blair Tolmie.

Tonight, Armadale are at home to local rivals Whitburn in their annual memorial game, while Bathgate travel to Broxburn (both games a 7pm kick-off).

On Monday night Arniston had a terrific 3-0 win at home to an Airdrie under-20 side.

Elsewhere on Monday night, Bo’ness had their first win of the pre-season games when they beat West Super League side Pollok 3-2.
