Young insists Queens have nothing to fear

QUEEN of the South midfielder Derek Young insists the Second Division leaders should not fear Dundee United having beaten Rangers and Hibs already this season.

The Doonhamers are looking to enhance their new-found reputation as giant killers when they host the top-flight side in tonight’s League Cup third round clash.

Allan Johnston’s side stunned Rangers at Ibrox last week with a penalty shoot-out win in the Ramsdens Cup. And they set up this evening’s tie against United with a surprise 2-0 victory over Hibs at Palmerston.

Former Dunfermline and Aberdeen player Young insists Queens can take great belief from their cup exploits.

Young said: “Against Hibs in the last round, I was pleasantly surprised by how well we played. I think we controlled a good part of that game with our passing and we created a lot of chances.

“I think that’s what gave us the confidence to go to Ibrox and create chances and win there. Overall, against Rangers, I would say we deserved it for our performance. Although it came down to penalties and it can go either way, I was glad it was us for the way we played. Hopefully when the Dundee United game comes around, that will be another way for the boys to look at it.”

Queens have made a great start to their bid to bounce straight back to the First Division having opened up a three-point lead at the summit and Young insists they are brimming with confidence. He added: “The season has gone well so far, no-one can grumble with how it’s gone but we know for a fact we’re 100 miles away from doing anything.
