Yorkston targets cash windfall

DUNFERMLINE chairman John Yorkston is hoping for a double cash windfall after yesterday’s Scottish Cup draw threw up the possibility of a fifth-round tie with Celtic.

The Pars will have to negotiate a replay with Inverness first, with that match having been switched to Wednesday, 18 January, so it can be broadcast live by Sky Sports.

However, with chances high that there will also be live TV coverage of Celtic’s trip to face the winners on the weekend of 4 and 5 February, Yorkston is hopeful of receiving two major boosts to their finances from this season’s cup.

Inverness earned a replay with Johnny Hayes’ equaliser five minutes into stoppage time in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Caledonian Stadium.

Yorkston said: “We’re delighted that Sky have chosen to cover the replay. It helps the finances of both clubs and that is welcome at this time.

“Obviously if it was a choice between getting through without the need for a replay and getting the money I would rather we were through to the next round. But I know finances are a big thing for both clubs and the money is welcome. If we can get through then, from a financial point of view, playing Celtic in the next round could bring us another wee boost.”
