The 28-year-old, who began his career with Manchester City before a series of loan spells, joined Dundee United on a permanent basis in 2011 following two loan spells, making 59 appearances and scoring twice.

Dons manager Derek McInnes spoke of his delight at signing the Dublin-born winger, telling Aberdeen’s official website: “I’ve always been a great admirer of Willo and he’s a player I am looking to make a real impact for Aberdeen next season.

“With his extensive SPL experience, he was voted Player of the Year for Dundee United last season which speaks volumes about his ability.

“We are delighted to have him on board as we look towards building a squad capable of bringing success back to this club.”

Flood will join the Pittodrie side when his current contract at Tannadice runs out.
