Whitehill buoyed by ‘excellent’ victory at home to Bo’ness

Whitehill Welfare enjoyed an impressive 3-1 win over East Juniors Super League side Bo’ness United in a pre-season friendly at Ferguson Park, writes KEITH ANDERSON.

Whitehill assistant Mike
Irving was again pleased with his team’s performance on the back of their 5-1 win against Dalbeattie Star last weekend. “We played well against Bo’ness and it was an excellent result,” said Irving. “We started exceptionally well and passed the ball superbly.”

Whitehill took an early lead when Wayne McIntosh threaded a ball to Jordan Hall, who finished well. The Rosewell club increased their advantage after 15 minutes when Scott Gormley beat Bo’ness keeper Scott Christie.

Bo’ness, however, rallied and Chris Hamilton pulled a goal back with a header before half-time. The visitors put Whitehill under pressure for a period but Andrew Kidd ensured Whitehill’s win with a long-range free kick. “We were under pressure at times,” added Irving. “However, our boys are getting the idea of what we are trying to achieve and technically we were very good.”

Elsewhere, Fife Juniors side Ballingry Rovers beat Edinburgh City 4-2, with City’s goals coming from Douglas Gair and Paul
Devlin. Craigroyston were beaten 5-3 at home by Haddington Athletic. John Dunn, Timashe Mukundwa and Paul Lynch
netted for Craigroyston.
