Welfare pip Vale in semi

Vale of Leithen 1Whitehill Welfare 2

Whitehill fought their way through to the Image Printers Cup final courtesy of a narrow victory over the Vale.

The Midlothian side took the lead against the run of play in the 19th minute when Aaron Somerville rose to meet a Wayne Sproule cross and the header crossed the line via the post.

A minute into the second half Vale drew level when Steven Radzynski found himself through on goal and knocked the ball past keeper Darren Walker. Five minutes later Whitehill went back in front when Somerville worked his way into the penalty area before shooting home.

The remainder of the game saw defences and goalkeepers on top. Home keeper Mark Wilson saved well from Somerville and Vale’s Stephen Sproule cleared an attempt from brother Wayne off the line. At the other end Walker superbly tipped Scott Moffat’s looping header over.
