Villa, baby’s birth – in that order

Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph is prepared to miss the birth of his first child if it coincides with one of the games in the club’s ongoing battle to avoid relegation.

Delph’s girlfriend Natalie is due to give birth early next month but the 23-year-old said he is willing to prioritise playing if necessary.

“We have spoken about it,” Delph said. “It could happen as one of the games is about to go on. But this is a crucial part of the season and, if I’m down to play in the games, I need to be playing.”
