Tynecastle off the bottom

Tynecastle boosted their chances of survival in the
Central Taxis Premier Division as a 3-1 victory over Vale of Leithen saw them climb off the bottom, ahead of Edinburgh University on goal difference.

Tynecastle belied their lowly status with an impressive display as they fought back from a goal down to claim the points. Vale took the lead after six minutes when Jim Young followed up to fire in the rebound after Jack Blaikie’s penalty was saved by Slawomir Banaszynski.

Jamie Butler brought Tynecastle level with an overhead kick from 14 yards. Tynecastle had the advantage of a strong wind in the second half and put Vale under pressure until their perseverance paid off with 20 minutes left when Jamie Devlin’s free kick was headed in by John Williams. Butler sealed the win from close range when he was picked out by another free-kick from Devlin.
