Turiff United 0-1 Ross County: County relishing Dutch trip

ROSS County are heading for a pre-season training camp in the Netherlands a week before their first SPL campaign kicks off and mifielder Stuart Kettlewell says the trip can set the seal on team bonding.

Scorers: Ross County - McMenamin (22)

New signings Ross Tokely, Gary Glen and the returning Jimmy Scott were all given a run-out at Turriff when a solitary Colin McMenamin strike settled the match.

While County lacked a cutting edge at times, Kettlewell was delighted by the way they worked and moved the ball.

The ex-Clyde and Queen’s Park midfielder said: “It was all about fitness and trying to get as much out of the game as we possibly could. It was as good a surface as you could hope for and it was good to get the ball down and pass it with good rhythm. “You can’t take too much out of a pre-season friendly but it is all positive for us at the moment in terms of working towards the big season ahead.

“In midweek we play Raith Rovers, which will be a good test and then we are going to Holland, which will be really good as well. I think it will be good for team bonding with everybody together for a week.

“We will really knuckle down in training and there might be a couple of games over there.

“I think the new boys will add something to the tight-knit squad we already have. The nucleus of the team has been there for a few seasons I think it’s just a case of adding to that and trying to improve.

“If we stick together next season, hopefully we will do well in the SPL.”

The goal came in the 22nd minute when McMenamin clipped home a Steven Craig cross from ten yards.

County manager Derek Adams said: “It was good for all of the boys to get 45 minutes under their belts. We are still looking for defenders because we are a wee bit short in that area, but we’re working on that.”
