Manager Derek Adams has already captured midfielder Michael Tidser and striker Jordan Slew on loan from Rotherham and Blackburn respectively, while Greek defender Evangelos Ikonomou has returned for a second stint in Dingwall.

Cardiff City playmaker Filip Kiss is also expected to complete a temporary move this week.

After a disappointing start to the season, County have eased their fears of finishing in the automatic relegation berth following back-to-back victories that have lifted them 19 points clear of stricken Hearts. But the Highland outfit remain second bottom and in the play-off place, one point behind Partick Thistle.

MacGregor admits Adams has scope to bolster the squad. He said: “It’s been a difficult first four or five months for us. We have not been good enough and we know we need to change, and we’re in the process of doing that. We had three new players in the squad against St Johnstone and there are more to come.

“I would think there are another two or three to come but that’s a football matter, not a chairman’s prerogative.

“For the Ross County supporters, we value their support and we recognise we have not been doing enough and we have to do something about it. We need to strengthen and stay in this league, the Premiership is the place to be; we strived for 19 years to get here and we’re not going to give it up easy.”

Elsewhere, defender Sanel Jahic has joined Gwion Edwards in leaving St Johnstone. Manager Tommy Wright has freed Bosnia centre-back Jahic, who signed a short-term contract in October after Steven Anderson was ruled out for several months.

Swansea wide midfielder Edwards earlier rejected the opportunity to extend his loan deal. Edwards spent most of 2013 on loan in Perth and made 24 appearances, but only four of them were from the start.

Partick Thistle have cancelled the contracts of Hugh Murray and Gerry O’Donnell. Former St Mirren midfielder Murray has not played for Thistle since February and spent the first half of the season on loan at Dumbarton. Sons manager Ian Murray has spoken of his desire to keep the player. Under-20s striker O’Donnell has not played for the Jags’ first team.
