Tommy Wright will stick to tested Euro formula

Saints beat Rosenborg and Minsk away from home in the Europa League before going out to the latter on penalties at  McDiarmid Park.

The Scottish Cup winners have travelled to Switzerland confident of repeating their  exploits against Luzern tonight in the Europa League second qualifying round.

“The lads are in good shape. We have used exactly the same programme as we did last year so there’s going to be no concerns about whether we’re ready fitness wise or not,” Wright told St Johnstone’s official television channel.

“We have proved that we know what it takes to get a result away from home in Europe. We also know that it takes everybody to be on their game. We need everyone that plays and everyone that comes on to be right on top of their game.

“We do know how we are going to set up against them so hopefully we can work towards that plan and get a result.”

Luzern begin their league season on Sunday against Grasshoppers and Wright expects them to be full of energy.

“They are a good side, I think it will be a tough game,” he said. “I don’t think there’s much between the sides. They play a pressing game and will probably get about us more than the likes of Rosenborg did, but that probably suits us because we like to play at a high tempo and we have enough about the squad to deal with them.”

Wright will be without defender Steven Anderson (hamstring) and midfielder Gary McDonald (back) while striker Stevie May is in the squad but remains a doubt with a thigh strain.
