Thompson calls for Saints consistency

STEVEN Thompson believes consistency is key in St Mirren’s bid to establish themselves in the top six of the SPL.

The Paisley side registered their first home league victory of the season as they defeated Hearts 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

“From my point of view it’s great to get a result, Hearts are a tough team to play against but I thought we defended very well and coped with all they threw at us,” said Thompson.

“To sit third in the league is fantastic, but we need to be doing the same against every team that comes here, we have to be hard to beat at home.

“We have to establish ourselves in the top six, we were there for the first few months of last season and then dropped off. Consistency is key in this league and I would say a side like Motherwell are the blueprint for that.

“Nobody here will get carried away but I think we have a bit of steel about us this season and teams will find us difficult to beat.”
