Third division: Montrose out of top four

MONTROSE could have gone second with a win, but instead they find themselves outside the play-off zone after losing 3-1 away to bottom-of-the-league Stirling Albion.

The Gable Endies took the lead through Stephen McNally, but Jordan White and Mark Ferry had the hosts ahead by half time before Stephen Day sealed the win late on. The Binos can now move off the bottom by beating East Stirlingshire tomorrow night. Manager Greig McDonald said: “That was our best display since I took over.”

Peterhead moved into third with a 4-2 win at East Stirling. Rory McAllister’s double was added to by Andy Rodgers and Scott McLaughlin as the Blue Toon went four up by half-time, with Stephen Jackson and Jamie Glasgow hitting back for Shire.

Elgin are up to fourth after a 3-1 win at home to Annan with Daniel Moore, Paul Harkins and Craig Gunn all scoring in the first half. Michael Daly headed in for the Galabank side after the break before Harkins saw a penalty saved by Alex Mitchell.

Berwick Rangers and Clyde played out a 3-3 draw at Shielfield. Lee Sharp’s free kick put the Bully Wee ahead at the interval, but Darren Lavery and Fraser McLaren turned things around early in the second half. John Sweeney levelled before Lavery headed Berwick in front again, only for Pat Scullion to net a late equaliser.
