Alan Stubbs' job on the line as St Mirren chiefs eye Jim McIntyre - reports

St Mirren are on the verge of sacking Alan Stubbs and bringing in Jim McIntyre in a bid to turn around their poor start to the season.

After an opening day win over Dundee, the Buddies have lost three on the trot and sit second bottom of the Scottish Premiership after Saturday’s 4-1 reversal against Hearts at Tynecastle.

According to reports, the St Mirren hierarchy have seen enough and are planning on axing the former Hibs boss.

It is understood that a compensation package is being put together and that Stubbs may be away by the time Celtic visit the Simple Digital Arena on league duty on September 14.

The former Everton and Bolton defender succeeded Jack Ross in June, signing a three-year deal as the 46-year-old took his first managerial post since parting company with Rotherham in the latter part of 2016.

However, along with three losses in their opening four league fixtures, the Paisley side stuttered to draws with Lowland League outfit Spartans, and fourth-tier Queen’s Park in the Betfred Cup group stages, and were on the receiving end of a 4-0 drubbing at Pittodrie from Aberdeen.

Former Ross County boss McIntyre, who is understood to have turned down an approach from Falkirk, looks set to replace Stubbs in the St Mirren hot seat.
