Daniel Sturridge has been chosen ahead of Harry Kane to lead the England attack against Scotland at Wembley this evening.
The Liverpool forward, who yet to score a league goal this season, will play in front of an attacking midfield trio of Wayne Rooney, Adam Lallana and Raheem Sterling.
Rooney will wear the captain’s armband again after being left out of England’s previous qualifier against Slovenia, a goalless draw.
He will look to put poor domestic form behind him as he tries to link midfield and attack. Eric Dier, one of England’s best performers at the European Championship in France, and Jordan Henderson will play in deeper-lying midfield roles.
It is a settled back-line, with Tottenham Hotspur duo Kyle Walker and Danny Rose flanking John Stones and Gary Cahill. Joe Hart, currently on loan at Serie A side Torino, continues in goal.
