A £2 million move for Osijek’s Albanian international winger Eros Grezda is also in the pipeline but the deal for Worrall has been signed off with 24 hours to spare ahead of Friday night’s transfer deadline.

Gerrard, speaking after Rangers’ Europa League tie against Ufa in Russia, said: “Hopefully there will be some good news with Grezda in the coming days but in terms of Joe, it’s good news. As we were playing he should have signed a deal to be a Rangers player for a year.”

Worrall is highly regarded by Forest and is an England Under-21 international.

Rangers drew 1-1 with Ufa for a 2-1 aggregate win to seal their place in the Europa League group stage.
