The ex-England national team manager is said to be very keen on the position having been out of football management since leaving Derby County earlier this year.

Through his representatives, he’s made it known to the Rangers hierarchy that he would be willing to work under a tight budget as the Govan club continue lose money on a yearly basis.

Though he has a prior relationship with Rangers’ director of football Mark Allen, he is still not the favourite for the role with the Ibrox side keen on bringing Derek McInnes back to Glasgow.

McClaren currently works as a coaching consultant for Maccabi Tel-Aviv in Israel.
