Dick Advocaat believes his former player Derek McInnes has what it takes to become the next manager of Rangers.

The Dutch boss coached the current favourite to succeed Pedro Caixinha during his spell as Rangers manager.

McInnes played under Advocaat for two years before moving to West Brom in the summer of 2000.

Advocaat, who takes charge of the Netherlands for tonight’s match with Scotland, feels it’s the right time for McInnes to step into the hotseat.

“He did a great job at Aberdeen [and] he’s the right age,” said Advocaat.
