Celtic are interested in signing USA World Cup star Mikkel Diskerud.

New manager Ronny Deila is a massive fan of the 23-year-old attacking midfielder. The player, who was a target for Deila when he managed Stormsgodset, has also been reported by the Sun to have been a target for Celtic under Neil Lennon.

The midfielder could be bought on the cheap, for as little as £250,000, as his contract with current club Rosenborg ends in December and the club will be looking for a return before that happens.

Diskerud is a Norwegian by birth, playing for the Norway at youth level, however he qualified to play for the US through his mother and now has 20 caps.

His Father and agent Paal told the Sun: “I don’t want to comment on speculation regarding other clubs. I also don’t want to say whether he’s been offered a new deal at Rosenborg. But I will confirm Ronny tried to sign Mikkel when he was on loan to Belgian club Gent from Stabaek. I know Ronny and there were discussions between us about him going to Stromsgodset at that time. However Rosenborg was better for him economically.”
