‘Superstar’ Lamie is SFL’s fittest footballer

Airdrie United defender Ricki Lamie has proved himself to be the fittest player in the Scottish Football League by winning the inaugural Ramsdens Soccer Star tournament and he will now be going on a summer holiday as a result.

Players from the 30 SFL clubs have been testing themselves in a 1970s Superstars style event over the past three weeks and the grand final was held yesterday at the Scotstoun Leisure Centre in Glasgow.

Lamie came on top of a field that included five other finalists in a series of events that included sprint, rowing and static cycling challenges as well as gym and football tests.

As a reward for his efforts, Lamie picked up a prize of £1,000 as well as his club earning £2,000 for youth development.

The 18-year-old said: “I surprised myself with how well I did in the skipping event, as that was my weakest event in the qualifying heat.

“It is great to be the ‘Ramsdens Soccer Star’ and I can use the money for my summer holiday.”
