Strollers not ticking all the boxes for frustrated Chic

STROLLERS manager Chic McAleavy was left frustrated
after watching his team gift Turriff a place in the Scottish Cup third round.

“We gave away two cheap goals,” he said. “We had a chance when Eddie Mearns broke the offside trap but his
effort went wide. That for me was the turning point.”

Turriff took the lead in the opening minutes when Steven Gauld hit a shot from the edge of the box and keeper Paul Tansey could only push the ball as far as Cameron Bowden, who slotted the ball into the empty net.

David Mackenzie doubled Turriff’s advantage when he broke the offside trap and placed a delicate chip over
Tansey and into the net.

Strollers had a great chance to pull one back on the hour mark when Mearns was played in and broke the offside trap but his shot from close range went wide of the target.

A few minutes later and Civil found themselves back in the game, a long thrown in by Paul Scales resulted in Ross Anderson turning the ball into his own net. Civil had a few chances at the death but Steven Coutts pulled of some great saves.

Turriff boss Mark Simpson said: “We could have added to our tally in the first half, but fair play to Civil who came at us in the second half.”
