Stark plays a Wylde card as he names Euro squad

SCOTLAND under-21 manager Billy Stark believes former Rangers winger Gregg Wylde can make a key contribution in the Euro qualifier away to Bulgaria on 31 May, despite red tape holding up his competitive debut for Bolton after leaving Ibrox.

Wylde’s last competitive outing was a 4-1 win for Rangers against Inverness on February 26. Stark is keen to assess the 21-year-old, who has been restricted to a handful of practice matches with Bolton since then.

He said: “It’s a chance to get Wylde up and see how he’s looking. He has gone off the radar because he has not been able to play. It’s an opportunity to have a look at him in training.”

Also in the squad is Rangers goalkeeper Grant Adam, who was last week fined £500 for chanting a sectarian slogan outside a Glasgow nightclub. Adam – on loan at Airdrie United – was a half-time replacement against Italy but was stretchered off within seconds of the restart after taking a blow to the head. Stark said: “He has done well and we all make mistakes. We are happy to have him.”
