ST MIRREN boosted their challenge for the Bell's First Division title last night when they brought striker John Sutton back from England.
Sutton - brother of Celtic's Chris - was outstanding with Raith Rovers before he moved on to Dundee and then went south to Millwall. He returns to sign a two-year contract.
St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson has also signed midfielder Charlie Adam on loan from Rangers until the end of December.
Dundee caretaker manager Gerry Britton has left Dens Park after being told that he is not in the running for the job.
Hamilton Academical signed defender/midfielder Scott McKenzie on loan from Falkirk until the end of December.
Livingston defender Scott McLaughlin has returned to Morton. McLaughlin was a favourite of the Greenock fans last season while on loan but returned to the Premierleague club at the end of the season. After failing to secure a regular first-team place at Livingston, he has signed a two-year deal at Cappielow. Morton have released defender Stuart McCluskey.
Cowdenbeath manager Mixu Paatelainen fixed up defender Mark Baxter and agreed a four-month loan deal for striker Andy Jackson, both from St Johnstone. Arbroath completed the signing of defender Ian Dobbin from Dumbarton and took Pat Clarke on loan from Raith Rovers.
Forfar Athletic brought in Scotland youth striker Darren Gribben from Cowdenbeath for a small fee, on a two-year deal. Station Park manager Brian Fairley also captured teenage keeper Sean Murdoch on loan from Dunfermline after former Aberdeen keeper Mark Peat decided not to join.
