No request has been made to shelve the weekend's match with Hamilton yet, but the Buddies were already forced to cancel last week’s Premiership match after being left with just eight outfield players to face Motherwell.

It has been reported those affected – in the fourth instance of the virus at the club this season – are three players and a staff member.

A statement read: “St Mirren F.C. can confirm that following another round of testing we have unfortunately received more positive COVID-19 cases.

“In line with Government guidelines, those affected will self-isolate for 10 days.

“This has been a hugely challenging time for the club but the health and well-being of players and staff remains our utmost priority.

“A further update will be available tomorrow following meetings with health authorities.”
