SPL Fanzone: St Johnstone

IT SEEMED just like old times. We were due to play Rangers, so inevitably all we heard in the build-up is that they want to sign our best player.

Then during the match we get nothing out of the ref, allowing Rangers’ first goal to stand despite dubiety over the location of their quick free-kick, followed by his failure to send off Goian for a cynical block shortly after we levelled the scores.

I don’t mind the ref allowing play to get moving again quickly – as long as he’s consistent. But about two minutes after Steve Davis was allowed to drop the ball several yards from the location of the free kick and play in Aluko – taking out three of our midfielders in the process – the whistler forced Saints centre-half David McCracken to retake a free kick, on the edge of our own box, because it was about two yards out of position.

Them’s the breaks – especially when you’re playing the Old Firm.
