SPL Fanzone: Motherwell

MOTHERWELL take on Hibs in the next Friday-night football experiment and have taken the bold move to slice prices.

This is a great gesture but, unfortunately, it is unlikely to become no more than that – a token gesture. There are still plenty of football fans in Scotland but thousands upon thousands have been systematically priced out of going. Although £10 entry will no doubt tempt a few more from Hibs on this occasion, they will soon be following matches from the comfort of their living rooms once again. Clubs face a near-impossible situation as they need to maximise revenue in the short term but what they seem to forget is that, with no fans, there will be no clubs or league. Protecting and expanding the source of revenue should be considered even more important than squeezing it for all it’s worth.
