What optimism there is derives from the feeling the club is in safe managerial hands and that an SPL of 14 looms. But is it all over? We will face bottom-six teams who may be tempted to blood youngsters. The Pars players are fighting for their livelihoods and won’t need much motivation with 18 of them out of contract.

Jim Jefferies has had time to assess his squad and will know the tactics, which could yet blast the relegation battle wide open, especially as we have no other distractions.
