SPFL wrap: Peterhead held at home by Stranraer

The Stair Park side were sent north last night after Saturday’s League 1 game was postponed to allow Peterhead to play their Petrofac Training Cup semi-final. Their next trip to Peterhead will also be midweek as that game is due when the Blue Toon meet either Rangers or St Mirren in the final.

A third journey looked on as the Balmoor floodlights dimmed to such an extent that referee Craig Charleston twice spoke to managers Jim McInally and Brian Reid. However, the game was played to a finish.

Reid’s side grabbed the opening goal after 13 minutes when Jass Sukar fouled Luciano Nequecaur and Craig Malcolm netted the resultant penalty.

Peterhead began to dominate and Rory McAllister levelled seconds before half time with a free-kick.

Neither side could come up with a winner and Stranraer left relieved.

The Albion Rovers and Cowdenbeath game was called off for a third time as Cliftonhill remained water-logged and the sides will try again, next Tuesday.

In League 2, Montrose were off the mark quickly against visitors Queen’s Park but the Spiders hit back to win 6-1.

Adrian Mallagaray curled home after six minutes to give the Gable Endies the lead. However, Queen’s levelled nine minutes later when Paul Woods swept home.

The Spiders moved into the lead shortly afterwards when home goalkeeper Ross Salmon dropped a Sean Burns free-kick into his own net and it was 3-1 on 27 minutes when Ryan McGeever turned the ball home after Burns had hit a post.

Vinnie Berry struck the woodwork as Queen’s pushed to go further ahead in the second half with Woods grabbing his second with ten minutes left, Jamie McKernon drilling home the fifth and Burns netting with a last gasp free-kick.
