Spartans ladies show character to rescue first round cup tie

Spartans Manager Debbi McCulloch today praised the spirit and character of her team after they rallied to defeat Falkirk in the opening round 
of the Scottish Women’s 
Premier League Cup, writes RICHARD PAYNE.

The Ainslie Park girls trailed 2-0 in the second half before fighting back to win 4-2 after extra-time.

For boss McCulloch the victory was vindication for persisting with their style of play and her unwavering belief in her players.
She said: “I think we showed a lot of character to come back from two goals down.

“Our fitness levels were excellent and, given the amount of possession we had, we knew that chances would come if 
we continued to be patient.”

Sarah Ewens pulled a goal back for Spartans but it was Kirsty McLaughlin’s fierce drive with just seconds left that made it 2-2. Ewens and Elliss Jenkins scored in extra time to seal a remarkable victory.
