Spartans all for ‘pyramid proposal’

Spartans chairman Craig Graham has hailed plans to reshape Scottish football, and insists his club will be first in line to take advantage of the pyramid system, writes Alan Temple.

Clubs around Scotland have been asked to analyse a series of proposed changes to the make-up of the game in Scotland, including an entry system into the Scottish Football League.

If approved, super leagues for the Highlands and Lowlands will be introduced from 2014, which would see the winners of each division meeting over two legs, with the victor then facing the bottom side in the senior set-up. There would also be access to the new Lowland and Highland leagues from feeder divisions.

Graham said: “I’m delighted the plan is in place. This is a complete revamp which changes the whole of the Scottish game, it’s not a case of merely adding a couple of leagues onto the SFL.

“Our crowds last year were down 20 per cent because the league was not competitive enough.”
