Shiels aims to turn boos into Kilmarnock cheers

KILMARNOCK manager Kenny Shiels has no fears about his players being affected by boos from disgruntled fans.

The team was jeered at Rugby Park last week as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Hearts. The reverse followed the disappointment of just missing out on a place in the top six of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

Shiels wants to get back on track against Aberdeen today and says his players have already put the reaction of angry supporters to the back of their minds. He said: “They haven’t been affected at all. It’s just one of those things that happens at grounds all over the world. We just want to win matches and that’s the priority.”

Asked if the boos will spur them on, he added: “Not at all. They won’t even remember about that to be honest. It’s not in our remit to worry about those kinds of things. We are disappointed after last week and we are trying to build a renewed energy to go and try to get something from Aberdeen.”

Meanwhile, Aberdeen captain Russell Anderson has warned fans that Derek McInnes might not be able to spark an immediate change in the team’s performances. The Dons were hampered by a familiar lack of creativity as supporters endured their seventh goalless draw of the season when McInnes took charge of them for the first time on Monday at Easter Road.

But Anderson said: “From inside the club there have been noticeable changes. For the supporters to see any difference, I think it might take a little bit longer for the manager to get his ideas across and for them to stick with the players. We will be using between now and the end of the season [to do that] and we’ll start to see a difference perhaps in the way the team plays.”
