David Weir linked with Sheffield United deal

FORMER Rangers captain David Weir is in the frame to prolong his playing career yet further with Sheffield United. The 42-year-old defender has trained with Danny Wilson’s squad since leaving Ibrox in January and taken part in a few bounce games.

Wilson told the United website: “David has been training with us for the last two weeks, through no commitment, but if anything happens to anyone in our squad we need to have our finger on the pulse. There is no rush to do anything. He is out of contract and can sign any time.”

Weir said: “I’ve still not lost the bug and, if I can get someone to give me the opportunity to play, I will definitely do it.”
