Seniors round-up

Duns opened the scoring after Cenerazzo had to block James Brydon’s shot and, from the corner, Renton headed past Stobie. The home side should have increased their lead soon after as Bruce Chisholm found himself with only Stobie to beat but the City goalkeeper did well to push his shot onto the post. City came back into the game and, just before half-time, McFarlane and Wilson both passed up good chances to equalise. The Duns defence stood firm as City pressed for an equaliser and, with time running out, Dick fed the ball to Howat in a good position but his shot was blocked. At the death, the visitors were hit by a sucker punch as Robertson broke up the field and fired the ball past Stobie to cap a fine victory for the Dingers.

Gretna opened the scoring when David Renyard found Phil Storey and his pass was driven into the net by Dan Rayson. Storey then hammered the ball across goal into the corner of the net to make it 2-0 after 30 minutes. Ten minutes later, Adam McMath powered home a Storey assist. On half time, John Jardine was red carded for a infringement on the edge of the home penalty box when a Strollers player went down. Strollers pulled a goal back in the 57th minute when Stuart Gormley shot home from just inside the box. Gretna were dealt another blow when the referee sent off Storey for his second yellow card. The visitors pulled another goal back when they were awarded a penalty for handball. Grant saved the initial kick but couldn’t stop Danny Rennie netting the rebound. In the 80th minute, David Renyard took the ball on a run and found McMath with a great through ball and the big striker finished in style. In the dying minutes, Strollers captain Liam Jack was sent off.

Albert started brightly and Watt goalkeeper Craig Saunders made a smart save from Darrell Laing’s left-foot drive, but two goals in quick succession swung the game in favour of the home side. Gordon Wilson’s fine crossfield pass gave Chris Donnelly the chance to cut inside and lay the ball back for Michael Connor to score. Sean Muhsin added a second after Paul Tansey saved Donnelly’s shot. Wilson and Connor both rattled the bar before half-time but the next goal came ten minutes after the interval when Ewan Watson laid the ball back for Jamie Brown to pick his spot from the edge of the area. When a soft penalty was awarded for a challenge on Watson, Tansey saved Ricky Burke’s kick, only for Donnelly to score after Brown headed the rebound against the bar. Eight minutes from time, a trip on Liam Rogers brought Hawick a penalty which Craig Beattie tucked away. Burke, who had been cautioned earlier, was sent off five minutes from time after tripping Laing.

JOHN Crawford scored twice to take his tally for the season to 24 goals as Coldstream cruised to victory to move up to fourth in the table. Streamers took the lead in the 14th minute when Craig Heugh collected a loose ball on the left and cut in to find the bottom corner with a superb 25-yard strike. Crawford hit the bar, but two minutes from the break the striker turned his man and unleashed a shot from 18 yards which took a deflection on its way into the net. Ormiston’s best chance came early in the second half when Richard Fairnie went through on goal, but Mark Walters stood up well to make the save. From then on it was all Coldstream. Kristian Neill finished off a neat move by running on to Crawford’s pass to slot home the third and Crawford then headed in Robbie Armstrong’s corner.

The home side were ahead after eight minutes. Scott fired a ferocious cross into the six-yard box from the right-hand side and Kevin Cairnie guided the ball into the net. Kelso stepped up a gear after the break, and threatened to equalise with a spate of four corners in five minutes. The visitors were rewarded for their improved efforts in the 78th minute when a slip at the back allowed Derek Burnett to poke home the equaliser. However, five minutes before the final whistle, Preston regained the lead with Sean Martin setting up Bryan Wilson to lash the ball home from the edge of the box.
