Semi woe for Spartans

Edinburgh City beat holders Spartans 3-1 in the East of Scotland Football Association League Cup semi-finals.

Ross Guthrie fired City ahead midway through the first half and ex-Arbroath striker Robbie Ross notched two more before half time. Spartans pulled a goal back ten minutes from time through Gavin Malin.

City will face Whitehill Welfare in the final after they beat Lothian Thistle 2-1. Craig Stevenson put Lothian in front but Dayne Robertson equalised from the penalty spot before a second-half Kevin Lee own goal proved to be the winner.

In the Central Taxis Premier Division, Leith Athletic moved out of the bottom two for the first time this season by beating Vale of Leithen 2-1. Vale’s Ryan McKenzie was sent off before Ricky Miller gave Vale the lead. Greig Tulloch equalised before a Steven Sproule own goal handed Leith the win. Their captain Gary Black was red-carded late on.
