Scottish youngster haunted by ghost during Ireland stint

The 22-year-old signed for Limerick earlier this year as he looked to get his career back on track following a release from United.

Moore has twice survived skin cancer so he’s no stranger to bravery, but even he couldn’t overcome the constant distraction of his bizarre living conditions in Ireland.

Not only was he forced to inhabit a room along with the ghost of a nun who’d committed suicide within the same four walls, he also had to contend with local gangsters and strange people hanging around his digs.

He said: “I stayed in an old convent. The front garden was a graveyard. A nun had committed suicide in my room and the grave stone in the garden overturned. One of the things on it was ‘Room 106’ and that was the room I was in!

“I heard stuff all the time. There was the sound of scraping on the walls inside the room every night. I swear this is true. My team-mates couldn’t believe I was living there but to rent somewhere was going to be £800 a month and I didn’t know how long I was going to be there.

“I remember a guy getting a treadmill in the place and he said to me: ‘If that gets broken you are going back in a f****** box’. I was kind of laughing as I looked at him but he was being deadly serious!

“There were all sorts of things going on in the digs. I remember there was one room that was locked. This guy would go in and look like a different person when he came out. He was definitely on something.”

Moore, not surprisingly, decided to cut his stay short and return to Scotland. He’ll be looking to impress clubs back home when he features in the PFA Scotland Exit Trial this coming Saturday.
