Scottish League Cup round-up: Livingston and Accies secure extra-time triumphs, while Pars ease through

Partick Thistle’s flying start to the season came unstuck against Hamilton Accies at New Douglas Park as Ali Crawford’s wonder goal knocked Jackie McNamara’s side out of the Scottish Communities Cup with a 1-0 scoreline.

There were chances at both ends early on with Ziggy Gordon close to opening the scoring for the home side and then a Chris Erskine effort being turned wide seconds later.

On-loan Celtic youngster James Keatings burst through the Thistle defence 20 minutes into the second half and the deadlock looked set to be broken, however he fired over.

The winning goal came 3 minutes into the second period of extra time when Crawford let fly from 30 yards out with Thistle goalkeeper Scot Fox left clutching thin air.

Livingston saw off the challenge of Dumbarton 3-2 in extra time with youngster Dylan Easton’s goal being decisive

Jim Lister gave Dumbarton the lead on 36 minutes when collected a high pass and took his time before sliding the ball home, however the visitors’ joy was short-lived. The Lions drew level three minutes later after Ian Russell was fouled in the box and the striker himself sent Stephen Grindlay the wring way from the spot.

Mark Gilhaney and Lister hit the woodwork in quick succession as Dumbarton looked for a second half winner but it was scrambled effort from Barr and Easton’s precise finish in the first period of extended play that eventually won the tie despite Mark Gilhaney pulling a goal back.

Dunfermline defeated Montrose 3-0 with the game at East End Park beginning in the cruellest of circumstances for the Third Division side. The Pars’ Ran Wallace clattered into Paul Watson straight from the kick off and the Montrose man needed lengthy treatment before returning with four minutes played.

Watson immediately broke down in the middle of the park and as Dunfermline played on Jordan McMillan exchanged passes with Stephen Husband in the left back area vacated by the Gable Endie before McMillan fired the ball across goal.

Wallace flicked it goalward and Andy Barrowman completed the job when he prodded home from four yards out with Watson immediately being replaced by Grant Mosson.

The Pars came close midway through the half when Wallace rattled a fierce drive off the bar, however the striker had better luck 4 minutes from half-time when he was perfectly placed to turn home a Josh Falkingham cut-back to make it two.

Barrowman grabbed his second goal of the evening with 64 minutes played when he volleyed home a Falkingham cross in fine style to make it three just 4 minutes later

• Forfar’s recent signing Odmar Faeroe is in line to move from Second Division football at Station Park to international football in the AWD Arena in Hannover against Germany in a World Cup qualifier after being called up by Faroe Islands. Centre back Faeroe, who has played for his national under-21 side, joined the Loons last week from B36 Torshavn after moving to Aberdeen to attend University,.

He has yet to play in sky blue colours, although that has not stopped national boss Lars Olsen from picking him. Forfar have had internationalists in their side before with goalkeeper Stewart Kennedy having a long stint at the club in the eighties after picking up 5 caps for Scotland, the last of which was in a disastrous 5-1 defeat from England in 1975.

Former Hearts and Dundee United midfielder David Bowman was also a Scotland cap before playing for Forfar and it was with the Angus side that has career effectively ended when he picked up a seven game ban in October 2000 for swearing at a referee.
