Scottish Cup: Partick Thistle 0 - 1 Queen of the South

QUEENS sucker-punched listless Thistle to book their place in the fifth round at the end of a truly awful cup tie. Jackie McNamara’s Partick were on top throughout, but a lack of any sort of cutting edge cost them dear as the men from Dumfries popped up out of nowhere with a stunning last-gasp winner.

The opening 45 minutes saw anything worthy of note stemming from Thistle, who controlled much of the play only to be let down by poor decision-making.

Faced with a Queens team deployed with typical Gus MacPherson caginess to stifle and frustrate, the closest the Jags came was an eighth-minute drive from Chris Erskine, which skidded narrowly wide of target.

Queens were a touch more adventurous after the break as they tried to offer lone striker Nicky Clark more support.

But with a dreaded replay in Dumfries looking nailed on, with neither keeper called into any sort of action, there was to be a twist in the tail.

The Doonhamers’ Danny Carmichael latched on to a clever Ryan McGuffie header to spin and crash a late winner past Scott Fox.
