Scottish club scraps plans to sell alcohol at games

Irvine Meadow have decided to scrap plans to sell alcohol at their match with Irvine Vics this weekend.

The junior club initially announced their intention to become the first club to make alcohol available inside the stadium in over 30 years.

It quickly made its way into the national media, but the club have now decided it’s an idea they no longer want to pursue.

Club chairman Robert Jeffrey insisted there was no “underlying issues” that forced them into making the U-turn. The committee just decided it wasn’t worth their time.

He said: “We thought it was the wrong decision to go for it. There was no conditions, we just decided ourselves that we’re busy enough and we didn’t need the hassle.”

“You can only sell drink before the game and at half-time. You can’t sell drink during the game anywhere, even in England.

“When we weighed everything up, we decided that it wasn’t worth it.”
